OUR PROJECTS
Backpack Distributions
Every month, we hand-distribute ~50 backpacks and supplies near the Durham Bulls Stadium to those in need, partnering with Meet Me At The Bridge, Changed Paths, and Open Table Ministry!
We create and distribute healthcare resource guides at backpack distributions to help those in need access various low-cost resources, from substance abuse recovery to transitional housing.
Monthly GBMs
Every month, our network of Duke volunteers gather to pack backpacks full of essential supplies for our distributions and customize them with uplifting messages or crafts.
Tutoring Kids
Throughout the semester, we tutor school-aged youth from families without housing at Families Moving Forward in English, improving their reading comprehension and grammar skills!
Advocacy & Awareness Panels
Every semester, we host a “Perspectives on Houselessness” Panel with keynote speakers to help raise awareness in the Durham community.
Facility Fridays
We work with the Families Moving Forward Shelter to refurbish their facilities by painting the fences, spreading mulch, and organizing other key functions of the shelter.
Fundraising
We host various fundraising events, from bingo to bakesales, to help raise money for the continuity of our organization and spread awareness about our mission.
Room Renovations
We renovate, furnish, and decorate rooms in the Families Moving Forward Shelter with the "A Lotta Love" Program. Families receive new bedding, toys, and other supplies through the program.
Making Meals
We cook and serve meals for the unhoused population in Durham at Durham Rescue Mission shelter on weekends.
Special Events
We partner with Families Moving Forward to host annual special events such as birthday parties, the Fall Fest, the Spring Fest, and Holiday Decorating.
